Informed Marketing Services is a sponsor and an ongoing contributor to The Wildwood School, benefiting children with autism and other developmental disabilities.
This past weekend (6/24), Danielle, Tracy and Dawn joined me and 15-20 other volunteers from around the Capital Region to help prepare Camp Wildwood for summer.
While I was off preparing camp sites and trails; Danielle, Tracy and Dawn scrubbed bathrooms, showers, toilets and floors. They cleaned the playgrounds and pavillions of all the debris nature deposits throughout the winter and spring. At the end of the day, they went home very tired, a little dirty and with great reason to be proud.
The Wildwood Camp is not a playground for privileged kids. Wildwood Camp is an important learning site where hardworking children continue their lessons as well as their struggles. My son Ari and many others don't inately know how to play or participate in group activities, and few have friends. Summer activities are artfully taught and group interactions are skillfully facilitated. Teachers and therapists bring their curricula out of the classrooms and integrate nature throughout their day.
Ari will be entering his 3rd year at Camp Wildwood. Now 8 years old, Ari started speaking just prior to last summer and spent the summer building upon his new found gift. Thanks to the efforts of volunteers like Danielle, Tracy and Dawn, I'm confident that this summer will yield another fun and successful opportunity to learn and have fun doing it.
Danielle, Tracy and Dawn, thanks for all your help. You did a great job. You made a big difference. |
